Quick Answer
Best overall months: June, July and August. The dry season across most of Brazil. Rio de Janeiro is at its most beautiful, prices are lower than the December–March peak and the weather is warm but not oppressively humid. The one exception is Fernando de Noronha and the Northeast coast, which are better August–January.

By Region: When to Go
Rio de Janeiro: June–September is the best window — dry, sunny, warm (22–28°C) and significantly less humid than summer. December–March is Carnival season — extraordinary atmosphere but expensive and rainy.
The Amazon: June–November (dry season) is better for wildlife and trekking. December–May floods the forest beautifully but makes land access harder.
Fernando de Noronha: August–January for the clearest water and calmest seas. February–July is rainier with reduced underwater visibility.
Pantanal: July–October is peak jaguar season — the absolute best time for wildlife. June–September is the general dry season with excellent wildlife viewing throughout.
Northeast (Salvador, Fortaleza, Recife): September–March is the dry season and best for beaches. April–July is rainy season in the Northeast.
Florianópolis: December–March for beach weather. June–August for surfing and exploring without crowds.
Brazil's Rainy Seasons Explained
Brazil's rainy seasons are regional and opposite in timing. The Amazon receives rain year-round but peaks December–May. Rio's summer (December–March) brings heavy afternoon storms but is still beach weather. The Northeast's rainy season is April–July — opposite to Rio. Southern Brazil (Floripa) gets rain in winter (June–August).
Carnival — When and Where
Carnival falls 47 days before Easter, so dates vary each year. In 2026, Carnival runs February 13–18. The two main events are Rio de Janeiro (samba school parades in the Sambódromo) and Salvador (the world's largest street carnival — 2+ million people in the streets). Both are extraordinary and require booking accommodation 6–12 months in advance.
