Visa Required Since April 2025

Brazil reinstated a visitor visa requirement for US citizens on April 10, 2025, ending the visa-free arrangement in place since 2019. The requirement is based on reciprocity.

The e-Visa is applied for online before travel. It must be approved before you board. Airlines check for it at check-in and will deny boarding without it.

How to Apply

The official Brazilian government-authorized e-Visa portal is brazil.vfsevisa.com. The application is done entirely online. Processing typically takes 72 hours but allow at least 7 business days. The fee is USD $80.90.

Only use the official portal: brazil.vfsevisa.com. Many unofficial sites charge extra fees for the same service.

What to Bring at the Border

  • Valid US passport linked to your e-Visa
  • Your e-Visa approval printed or on phone
  • Return or onward ticket out of Brazil
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • Travel insurance strongly recommended

Length of Stay

The e-Visa allows up to 90 days per visit and a maximum of 180 days within any 12-month period. You can apply for a one-time 90-day extension at any Policia Federal office before your initial 90 days expire.

Canada and Australia

Canadian and Australian citizens are in the same situation. Both require an e-Visa to enter Brazil since April 10, 2025. The same portal and process applies.
