Why Visit Fernando de Noronha?

Fernando de Noronha is the kind of place you don't tell people about for fear it'll get too crowded. This remote volcanic archipelago, 354km off Brazil's northeast coast, is routinely ranked as having the world's most beautiful beaches — and for once, the hype is completely justified.

Access is strictly controlled. A daily preservation fee (TFPN) rises the longer you stay, keeping numbers low. The reward: crystalline water in 40 shades of blue, spinner dolphins every morning, and skies full of stars you won't see anywhere else.

💡 Best time: August–January has the clearest water and calmest seas. February–July is rainier with rougher water but lower prices and fewer visitors.

Safety in Fernando de Noronha

⚠️ Island rules: Noronha is a strict environmental preserve. No littering, no collecting shells or coral. The TFPN daily fee increases the longer you stay — factor this into your budget.

Safest areas for visitors

  • Everywhere on the island — One of the safest places in Brazil — crime virtually non-existent
  • Water safety — Always check surf conditions — some beaches have strong currents
  • Sun protection — UV is extremely intense this close to the equator — high SPF essential
📋 Book ahead: Accommodation books out months in advance, especially Aug–Jan. Book pousadas 3–6 months ahead. Pay the TFPN fee at the airport on arrival.
